Thor is a 2011 film produced by Marvel Studios and based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the film was released in theaters in 3D.
The film chronicles the adventures of Thor whose Jane Foster, Erik Selvig and Darcy Lewis are studying strange phenomena occurring in the New Mexico desert. Thor, God of Thunder, a character played by Chris Hemsworth.
The film has generally received positive reviews. Produced after The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2, which were unconvincing, Thor has been a success among fans of the genre.
One thousand years after the war in which the king of Asgard, Odin, defeated the Ice Giants and stole from their king, Laufey, the Casket of Ancient Winters, the Ice Giants manage to return to Asgard. Their goal is to regain possession of the casket. However, these are stopped by the object's guardian, the Destroyer, just at the moment of the coronation as king of the God of Thunder, Thor, the son of Odin.
Armed with the all-powerful hammer Mjolnir, Thor seeks revenge against the Giants, but this gesture undermines the peace between the two kingdoms. Odin, therefore, decides to strip him of all power and banishes him from Asgard. Thor is then sent to Earth, where he meets some scientists, trel meanwhile Mjolnir, Thor's hammer, also falls to Earth.
S.H.I.E.L.D. sends a team to the site to investigate, and they find the hammer but cannot lift it, as the weapon was programmed by Odin to be lifted only by those worthy of it. Meanwhile in Asgard, Thor's brother Loki discovers his true origins, and taking advantage of the "Odin sleep" into which the old king falls, he takes over the kingdom and sends the Destroyer to Earth so that he can kill Thor. But Thor will find that he can lift Mjolnir again and will try to defeat his brother's evil plans and return to Asgard.
